What was the Trans Manifesto?

The Trans Manifesto, developed through the LGBT Consortium, contained three key messages from trans communities. We are asked each candidate in the May 2015 Westminster General Election to promise to uphold these principles when considering legislation if they were elected.

The three principles are:

  • Regard trans individuals as equal citizens with equal rights,
  • Empower trans individuals to be authorities on all aspects of their own lives, and
  • Encourage diverse, representative, realistic and positive portrayals of trans individuals.

We had your help!

This website allowed people to see which candidates indicated support for the Trans Manifesto, which declined it, which were contacted but did not reply, and which were not contacted.

We asked people to contact the candidates in their constituency and get a written pledge of support for the three statements above. Contact details for each candidate were available by clicking on the candidate's name.
